I dance to remember my mother

my grandmother and her mother too.

memories of all the selves I have been,

from future to present to past.

I move with the body of ancients,

of women who’ve carried me womb to their back.

who’ve brought me to the earth I am standing,

and trust me despite what I lack.

My role on this earth, it is simple

to kneel down and to pray in the grass

to honour the bodies that brought me

and release the dogma of mass.
